Job Description Summary
This position oversees the preparation of the Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards (SEFA) as required by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Uniform Guidance and supports accounting functions at the University of Nebraska system office. The Senior Accountant works with campus Sponsored Programs, Accounting offices and university leadership to promote a culture of accountability and professionalism. This position assists in developing, coordinating, and implementing business information and reporting strategies that serves the many constituencies of the University.

Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in accounting and financial reporting. Excellent oral and written communication skills and demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy is essential.

Preferred:
  • Educational coursework in in business administration with emphasis in accounting.
  • Master’s degree
  • Certification as a Public Accountant
  • Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards (SEFA) knowledge or experience
  • Work experience directly related to higher education and government accounting.

Ideal candidates will demonstrate excellent independent judgement and analytical skills; strong interpersonal skills; a track record of timely completion of projects and the ability to responsibly manage competing priorities; success in collaboration and oversight of distributed resources and/or project teams; and commitment to the ideals of a major public research university.

An equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge is acquired may be considered.
