Job Description Summary
University of Nebraska’s Project/ Construction Manager (P/CM) is the University’s owner’s representative and facilitates the delivery of construction projects, including planning, design, construction, occupancy, and warranty for new and modified University facilities. The P/CM will effectively complete projects within the specified project requirements, schedule, budget, and programmatic purpose. Successful projects are achieved through active P/CM leadership and stakeholder partnering. Assigned projects will vary in scope and include complexities requiring initiative, communication, risk management thinking, and problem solving as well as knowledge of multifaceted design and construction issues and specialties. P/CM works as part of a creative team to deliver the vision of client and campus stakeholders.

This job announcement represents a dual level posting and will be filled as a Project/ Construction Manager or higher-level Senior Project/ Construction Manager. The hiring manager will consult with HR to determine the job level based on the skills, experience, and qualifications of the selected candidate.

In lieu of meeting educational degree requirements an applicant may be considered if they have an equivalent combination of education and experience that furnishes an understanding of construction procedures, design tools, and project management principles.

What We’re Looking For:

Project/ Construction Manager:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Four (4) years of experience leading the successful execution of multiple, large-scale projects from start to finish. Work Experience that includes:
    • Demonstrated experience with project or campus planning, classroom design, and/or cost estimating.
    • Experience using project management systems.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of software programs (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, MS Project)
  • Demonstrated knowledge and basic skills with 2D and 3D design with an eye for attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate and solve complex technical problems utilizing creativity and ingenuity.
What is helpful (Preferred):
  • College course work in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture
  • Demonstrated proficiency in REVIT, 3D design, AutoCAD, Sketchup and/or GIS.
  • Prior work experience as an Owner’s Representative
  • Experience with an architecture/ engineering consulting firm OR Experience working with non-profit, state or government organizations.
  • For Engineer degree applicants: Registered Nebraska professional engineer license or ability to obtain registration/licensure within 6 months of hire date.

To be considered for the SR. Project/ Construction Manager position you’ll need the above requirements plus the following:
Education and Experience (Sr.):
  • Seven years of experience performing complex project management activities to deliver large scale, high-visibility capital construction projects. Work Experience that includes:
    • Demonstrated experience mentoring others on construction project management/engineering best practices.
    • Demonstrated experience writing project justifications and defining budget, scope, and time-line obstacles.
What is helpful (Preferred):
  • For Engineer degree applicants: Registered Nebraska professional engineer license
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and regulations
Additional Information
The work environment and general physical requirements for project oversight and coordination are:
  • Normal office equipment and conditions that may include irregular and/or extra hours, as needed.
  • Periodic travel associated with projects – which requires a valid driver’s license and the ability to meet the criteria to drive a state vehicle to various job sites.
  • Construction sites and facility locations that can include exposure to temperature changes, humidity, dust, fumes, chemicals, moving machinery, walking on uneven surfaces, etc.
  • Working from heights, climbing stairs and/or ladders, and entering confined spaces to complete field condition assessments and inspections.
  • Fortitude to work under pressure and meet critical deadlines.
This position is part of the University of Nebraska Facilities Planning and Capital Projects (FPCP) team that offices in Lincoln, Nebraska. FPCP is responsible for projects occurring on the UN-Lincoln, Omaha, and Kearney campuses. This position works from the office in Lincoln but can have work assignments at any of the campuses. This position is defined as non-essential (per inclement weather policy) and will have the ability to work from home during bad weather.
